PAKISTAN PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION (PPA)

History of World Pharmacist Day

Since its founding, World Pharmacists Day has celebrated the crucial role of pharmacists and pharmacy professionals in healthcare. At the 2009 International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, the notion of a global pharmacist day was created. The FIP Council made up of pharmacy leaders from throughout the world, endorsed World Pharmacists Day on September 25th.

This landmark decision gave the pharmaceutical profession a forum to recognize pharmacists globally. World Pharmacists Day has been celebrated on September 25th since then. This unique day highlights a pharmacy subject each year to increase awareness of the profession’s vital role in healthcare and address global health issues.

The Impact of Pharmacists on Global Health

The UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 addresses non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory conditions, and mental health as well as communicable diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases.

These sectors have advanced thanks to pharmacists, but the COVID-19 epidemic has offered severe hurdles. Faced with these issues, FIP President Dominique Jordan has stressed the need to rebuild properly. World Pharmacists Day 2023’s message is “Empower pharmacies to do more.”

The Origins And Purpose Of World Pharmacy Day
