The Pakistan Pharmacists Association (PPA) is the premier national representative body of pharmacists in Pakistan. Since its establishment, the Association has remained committed to advancing the pharmacy profession, protecting the interests of pharmacists, promoting ethical professional practice, and contributing to the development of Pakistan’s healthcare system.

Over the decades, PPA has evolved into a strong democratic organization built upon constitutional governance, provincial representation, and collective leadership.

Historical Timeline

  • 1988 – A New Chapter in PPA Punjab

The *PPA Punjab Elections of 1988* marked a significant milestone in the Association’s history. *Dr. Amjad Jawa* was elected President marking the first time that PPG assumed the leadership of the Punjab branch. This achievement strengthened democratic participation and laid the foundation for future organizational reforms.

  • 1990 – First Democratic Elections of PPA Centre

In *1990, the Pakistan Pharmacists Association successfully conducted its **first Centre Elections* through unanimous consensus among all provincial branches. This historic event established a democratic framework for the national organization and reinforced the principles of unity, transparency, and provincial participation.

  • 1997 – Adoption of the Constitution

One of the Association’s greatest achievements came in *1997, when all provincial branches unanimously approved the **Constitution of the Pakistan Pharmacists Association*.

The Constitution established a unified governance framework for the Association and continues to serve as the foundation for democratic elections, institutional continuity, accountability, and organizational stability.

Democratic Journey

From *1990 to 2025, the Pakistan Pharmacists Association completed **35 calendar years* since its first Centre election. After accounting for exceptional periods during which regular electoral activities were significantly affected—including the COVID-19 pandemic and years devoted to organizational restructuring and negotiations—the Association has recorded approximately *29 active years* of democratic functioning.

During these active years, the Association successfully completed *nine democratic electoral cycles, resulting in the election of **10 different Presidents*, reflecting PPA’s enduring commitment to democratic governance, peaceful leadership transitions, and provincial representation.

For more than three decades, the Pakistan Pharmacists Association has remained the unified voice of pharmacists across Pakistan. Guided by democratic values, constitutional governance, and professional integrity, PPA has continuously worked to strengthen pharmacy practice, advocate for pharmacists’ rights, promote professional excellence, and contribute to the advancement of healthcare.
